Bonolo Mophosho

Counselling Psychologist

I am an HPCSA registered counselling psychologist qualified through the University of the Witwatersrand’s (Wits) Masters in Community-based Counselling psychology. I graduated with my Masters in 2013. Being a psychologist these past years has been a profound journey of self-development, growth, enlightenment and alignment. My training, work experiences as well as the diversity of clients I have encountered has made for a deep sense of peace, ease, and a feeling of home in the engagement with the work I do each day. I seek to afford my clients the same sense of peace and ease in our sessions together.

I work with individuals; children, adolescents and adults, as well as couples, to assist with various life challenges. My work has included therapy in one-on-one as well as group settings in school, university as well as corporate settings. I completed my internship at Wits’ Counselling and Careers Development Unit (CCDU) working with students and members of the public, offering counselling and career services (career counselling and career assessments), and facilitating workshops on a variety of issues. The workshops included the topics of stress and time management, exam preparation, coping with failure, dealing with anxiety, self-esteem and sexuality.

In the high school setting, I assisted adolescents through various challenges through individual therapy, conducting psycho- educational assessments as well as facilitating workshops, and in the corporate environment I performed individual psychotherapy and group trauma debriefings. The presenting problems I have dealt with include depression, anxiety, grief, trauma, adjustment, stress, marital problems, family and other relational problems, and academic challenge .

I have been trained in a range of therapeutic approaches including psychodynamic therapy, cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), person centered as well as solution-focused therapy. As such, I am an integrative therapist fusing techniques from different psychotherapeutic modalities to mould the best approach in meeting each client's needs. My work is, however, predominantly informed by Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Person-Centered Therapy.

Therapy is work and can be challenging. You unearth and meet hidden or buried parts of yourself often for the first time. It is an immensely transformative and liberating journey birthed from awareness and understanding. A lot of our work will be in providing you a comforting space to reflect on your experiences as well as your thoughts and emotions. I seek to enlighten you on the inner workings of your mind, and help you gain perspective on the challenges you may be experiencing. My disposition is to explore, conscientize you to, and gently challenge the ways in which you have become accustomed to think and perceive.

In addition to encouraging you to experiment with specific coping skills that may be beneficial to your particular journey. I also have a passion for the body of work in self-compassion and approach the work we do in garnering a compassionate outlook on all of who you are.
