Scholastic Assessment and School Readiness Assessment (Ages 5 to 18 years)
A Scholastic Assessment or School Readiness Assessment is a formal psychological assessment of a child’s cognitive, social and emotional development. This holistic assessment includes an intake session, 3-4 hour written/ verbal test battery, and feedback session with detailed written report. This assessment is highly recommended for families with children who are experiencing difficulties at school whether scholastic or behavioural.
A Scholastic Assessment allows the Psychologist to determine the cognitive, social and emotional factors underlying problematic behaviour and difficulties with learning. Caregivers/ parents are encouraged to provide the Psychologist with all previous medical and educational assessments, reports, and findings so that these can be integrated into the report. Professional recommendations are then made to the family regarding appropriate therapeutic intervention strategies and the correct timing/ type of school placement.
Subject Choice Assessment (Grade 9 Learners)
There comes the time in every child’s life when the decision must be made which subjects they will pursue in Grade 10, 11 and 12. This is a crucial decision because the long-term consequences of this decision can be far-reaching and significantly affect study and career path.
Following a thorough intake session, the child will be required to complete a career assessment questionnaire, an aptitude assessment and an occupational interest questionnaire. Taking into consideration the child’s academic history, school results and test results, a detailed report is provided and feedback is given to assist in making the best possible subject choices for Grade 10 and beyond.
